St. Alban’s News and Announcements

  1. Yearly Pledge Information – For those of you who have ordered pledge envelopes, they will be available for you in the hall after the service. We also have statements of your giving over 2011, so please pick up those statements.
  2. Uphold the beauty of God’s altar – Are you one of the people God is calling to be part of the Altar Guild? If so, please contact Mary Hager (hagermmh@aol.com or 080 4477 2713) , or Father Scott.
  3. Need for Sunday School Teachers – Do you enjoy working with children? Please consider joining our dwindling staff of committed volunteer Sunday School teachers. Each Sunday we need two teachers, one for the smaller children ages 2 to 7 and one for the older class of 8 to 11 year olds. We are down to a core group of four teachers, all of whom have family and work demands to balance with this important work. Please tell Nicola, Julie, Betsy, Joan or Father Scott if you can help with this very important ministry.
  4. Knitters and Crocheters please come! - St. Alban’s has begun a prayer shawl ministry. We are making shawls that are blessed and then given to someone in need of comfort. Meetings are once per month and you work at your own pace. We will even teach you if you want to learn to knit or crochet! Please contact Joyce Knight (crktoaz@aol.com or 080 3086 1833) for more information.
  5. Last chance for a St. Alban’s 2012 Calendar – Once again this year, the format is Churchman’s Ordo Kalendar, listing both the special days of observance from The Episcopal Church (USA) and other traditional Anglican holy days. Pick up a copy (or copies) at the welcome table during coffee hour. The cost is 500 yen each; net proceeds will support outreach projects.
  6. The Textile Group needs volunteers! - We are beginning some new projects and are really in need of people who can sew, applique, embroider, knit — anything with a needle. You do not have to be an expert either! There are a number of easier tasks and people who can help or direct. And, who knows, you may even improve your skills while helping the church with something that is greatly needed. Please contact Mary Hager for more information (hagermmh@aol.com or 080 4477 2713). We really need you!
  7. Men’s breakfast fellowship - Some members of St. Alban’s have expressed an interest in participating in a men’s breakfast fellowship. Meetings would possibly be held on a Saturday morning on a monthly basis, either at a suitable cafe/restaurant, St. Alban’s or someone’s home. The idea would be to enjoy fellowship while eating breakfast and then have a short Bible reading/discussion afterwards. We probably need about five or six men to make this worthwhile, so please contact Anthony Scott at anthony.scott@nortonrose.com if you are interested in attending, and please feel free to express any ideas you may have. We look forward to hearing from you! If the ladies would like us to set-up something similar for them, please also contact Anthony at the aforementioned email address.
  8. Saint Alban’s Nursery Program - Our church offers a respected English pre-school education based on Montessori methods and Christian concern for all children. For information regarding enrollment, specific dates, costs and other information please contact Mrs. Gilma Yamamoto at gilma.yam@gol.com or call her at (03) 3431-8534. From a solid foundation children grow to be confident and competent learners for life.
  9. Old palms - A basket has been set out near the entrance to the church for your Palm Sunday palms from previous years. Please bring your old palms, as they are needed to make ashes for Ash Wednesday. The last day for collection is February 19.
  10. Lenten Bible study – Materials have been ordered for a  -week course of DVD-taught Bible study for use during the 40 days of Lent (hence, 6 weeks!). If you would be interested in either hosting and/or facilitating a weekly Bible study during Lent (either at the church or your home), please contact Fr. Scott (walker.tko@nskk.org) or Anthony Scott (anthony.scott@nortonrose.com).
  11. St. Alban’s Book Discussion Group - The next group meeting is set for Friday, February 24, at the home or Morena Christian. The book for this meeting is “Nothing to Envy” by Barbara Demick and is available in paperback from amazon.jp. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m.
Please send Church Office stalbans@saintalbans.jp a draft of any announcements by Wednesday morning for the following Sunday’s Announcement Sheet. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
